Self-compassion
does not make us spoiled or weak, but rather is a discovered coping
method that research shows can lower anxiety and increase resilience
and recovery from the outcomes of stress. It also does not require us
to deny and suppress damaging aspects of our experience. In fact,
part of Neff's definition of self-compassion is mindfulness - or a
balanced holding in consciousness of all aspects of our experience,
without having overreacting to them. The essence of self-compassion
is to acknowledge our personal emotional suffering and then
intentionally ease and comfort ourselves by creating emotions of
warmth, softness, and care towards ourselves and, by association, all
living beings who are suffering.
Self-compassion
is also related with much more curiosity and exploration. When we
never defeat ourselves up for failure, we are freer to attempt new
things and make errors as component of the normal pattern of learning
and growth. Far More self-compassionate folks are also a lot more
ready to consider duty for their contribution to circumstances that
will not turn out as planned. When generating a error is not the
conclude of the world, we are freer to confront our mistakes, learn
new skills, and make amends, rather than conceal absent in shame.
